For many people, privacy is one of the biggest concerns when they own a smartphone. Keeping your data private from strangers over the internet is one thing, but keeping your data private in real life is another challenge that people face. Thanks to a new feature called Private Space, this might soon become a possibility.
The Private Space feature on stock Android is arriving a little late, but it certainly is a welcomed addition
It appears that Google is working on a new feature called Private Space, and the setting page was discovered on the recently released Android 14 QPR2 Beta 1. Clicking on the Create Private Space button lets you create a new user profile in Android with a private sub-categorization.
The way this feature could work is that it will let you hide apps on your phone. The available page already shows that you will have the ability to unlock the Private Space feature with the screen lock. The feature is currently under development, which means that we could see more features and functionality coming to the option. This will make Android even more secure for a lot of people.
However, this will not be the first time we will see something like that on an Android device. Features akin to Private Space have existed on many devices for a long time. Oppo, OnePlus, and Huawei phones have such a feature that works really well. Even Samsung has a similar feature called Secure Folder. However, that does not allow you to create a separate profile, so that is something new.
The good news is that Private Space will come to Android sooner rather than later. The feature does not seem like it will be added to other Android skins, considering how they all have their own implementations, but it is good to see that Pixel devices are getting this feature. We will keep you posted once it launches to everyone because, in its current state, the feature does not work.
